distributed ops teams that need organized, searchable internal communication.
Seraph Verdict

Slack remains the standard for internal team communication. The integration ecosystem is unmatched. For teams with fewer than 10 people, the free tier works well; larger teams need the Pro plan to retain message history.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Slack worth it for a small team?+

Yes, even for very small teams. Slack's channel structure keeps conversations organized, searchable, and far more efficient than email threads. The free tier works well for teams under 10 people.

Slack vs Microsoft Teams for small business?+

If your team is on Microsoft 365, Teams is included and worth using. If not, Slack is the better standalone choice — it has a stronger culture, better integrations, and a more intuitive interface.

Best team chat available, watch the notification budget

Slack is the best team chat platform we have used. The channel and thread model scales well, the integration ecosystem is broad, and the UX is sharper than Microsoft Teams. The risk is cultural: used without discipline, Slack becomes a notification firehose that fragments attention. Set channel naming conventions and notification defaults during rollout, not after problems show up.

+ Pros: Strong UX, broad integration library, mature threading, good async culture support
− Cons: Costs extra on top of Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, can encourage notification overload, expensive for larger teams on per-seat pricing
